Pitcher’s Long Toss Program
An important part of preparing for the season is a good long toss program. This will prepare players arms for the season strength wise and can add velocity at the same time. A long toss program is also an essential part of arm injury prevention.
- Key components of long toss:
- Stretch prior to throwing.
- Warm up by playing light catch.
- Throw to a partner or target.
- Keep the throw on a line.
- Use consistent throwing mechanics.
- Throw a set number of throws from increasing consistent distances (age dependent).
- Crow hop with each throw.
- Listen to your arm: if you feel pain-STOP and tell your coach/parent.
