Pitcher’s Long Toss Program

An important part of preparing for the season is a good long toss program. This will prepare players arms for the season strength wise and can add velocity at the same time. A long toss program is also an essential part of arm injury prevention.

  • Key components of long toss:
  • Stretch prior to throwing.
  • Warm up by playing light catch.
  • Throw to a partner or target.
  • Keep the throw on a line.
  • Use consistent throwing mechanics.
  • Throw a set number of throws from increasing consistent distances (age dependent).
  • Crow hop with each throw.
  • Listen to your arm: if you feel pain-STOP and tell your coach/parent.
